Hoh Rain Forest- 19 August 2011
The Hoh Rainforest is one of few temperate rainforests in North America. It averages about 274 inches- almost 7 meters- of rain annually, but has an otherwise mild climate, so the growing seasons are long. The lifecycle of some of the trees there can extend over 700 years, and it's not uncommon for a larger tree to contribute to its ecosystem as a nurse log for as long as it lived- allowing visitors to see a millenium and a half or so back in time.
